Ride Roosevelt’s Reading Wave

To earn your Reading Wave and have it posted on the first grade surfboard, just do one of the activities listed below. To earn beach stickers for your Wave, complete additional activities.  Remember that you only earn stickers for different activities.

___ Using the Nonfiction Text Features worksheet, (Headlines, Vocabulary, Pictures, Graphs) list 3 facts you learned from your book. Then show which text features helped draw your attention to these facts.   

___ Compare your story to another story that you’ve read or heard. Use a Venn diagram to show how the adventures of the main characters are similar or different.  

___ Choose 3 new or interesting words from your book. Write 3 sentences with the words or use them in your own short story.  

___ Using the Story Element graphic organizer, draw or write about the characters, settings, and major events in your story.  

___ If your book was fiction, summarize it using the Someone, Wanted, But, So, Then graphic organizer.    

___ What was your book’s main topic? Use the Main Idea and Supporting Details graphic organizer to help you come up with an answer.  

___ Summarize a book by creating an Art or Literacy project. (See Art or Literacy project Listing)
